Room access

  • Studio use is only for students enrolled in Fashion Design courses during current semester.
  • Each upper-class student will be issued a key at the beginning of the semester and will return the key at the end of the semester. Failure to return could result in a lowered grade and a replacement fee will be charged.
  • Outside of class-time studio doors must be kept closed and locked. DO NOT prop the door open.
  • Key(s) should be kept with students at all times; instructor(s) and staff is/are not responsible for letting students into the studio.

In studio

  • No food or drink allowed in the workspace. Keep food or drink at designated table outside of room.
  • In the event of any injury, sickness, safety or security issue, call 314-935-5555.
  • Use of SPRAY BOOTHS for all spraying activities is mandatory. Spraying in the classrooms, the hall or on concrete around the building is prohibited.
  • Personal supplies are each student’s responsibility, including those distributed in classes. Write first and last name on all supplies. Students are responsible for replacing any lost or damaged supplies. These are tools setting a foundation for your career and should be carefully maintained.
  • Keep the studio clean and tidy.
    • Waste: Put all
  • trash in the waste basket,
  • paper in the recycle bin,
  • fabric and thread in the textile recycle bin. Remove all pins, metal & plastic from textiles.
    • Keep machines and work stations organized.
    • Keep all personal supplies and materials in designated cabinets.
    • Hang rulers, curves, and squares up after using them.
    • Clean surface if you got it dirty. Cleaner and towels are in the rooms.
    • Sweep the floor. Brooms and dustpans are in the rooms.
  • Materials and equipment:
    • Fashion design studios contain costly specialized equipment. Respect & value these resources.
    • Students shall use only the materials & equipment in the room(s) for which they have keys.
    • Do not move material or equipment from room to room without permission of instructor.
    • Do not stitch over pins. Hitting a pin damages the needle and the machine.
    • Replace broken sewing machine or serger needle before leaving the machine. Be sure to remove entire needle; check the surface & bobbin.
    • Keep iron reservoir filled with water.
    • Leave all machines threaded at all times. Cut threads at the spool to change thread color.
    • In the case of a machine malfunction, email mrupper@wustl.edu, and let the instructor know.
  • Safety reminders:
    • When dark outside, keep studio door locked and keep window blinds closed.
    • Work in pairs when in studio after 8 PM for safety purposes. When leaving campus call walking escorts; they provide service to or from any location on campus, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., during the academic year (314) 935-5555.
  • Last person to exit the room:
    • Turn off & unplug iron.
    • Turn off lights & lock studio.

 

Violation of these policies may drop your grade & may result in a deficiency notice. (v.8/2019)
