Video Production Support

Faculty have various options for production to create instructional videos that include (1) Instructional Video Support Services, (2) Kaltura Recording Studios, and (3) DIY Resources.

#1: Instructional Video Support Services

The Sam Fox School will support faculty with two options for instructional video production.

A: WU Media Services (Moderate Production/Complexity)

This service is for larger more involved types of instructional videos. Examples may include a multi-step process in one of the fabrication spaces or studios. For an example see this 30-minute example done in the Printmaking facilities. A Media Services videographer will bring various cameras and lighting equipment as needed, record the session, and provided edited videos of each step of the process. Requirements:

  • List of activities to be filmed and general description of needs
  • Two planning meetings to discuss sequence, space and shots required

To initiate this process please contact Enrique Von Rohr to discuss lead time and coordination. The sooner you reach out the better. Note that the Dean needs to approves each as funding is required due to a Media Service hourly charge.

B: Sam Fox Services (Simple Production/Complexity)

As of August 10th, 2020 we will have internal staff providing simple video recording and editing services. This will be primarily for short one camera based recordings with some lighting if needed. Minor edits will be done to trim the videos and delivered to you in a Box file for using as needed.

To initiate this process please contact Enrique Von Rohr to discuss lead time and coordination. The sooner you reach out the better.

#2: Kaltura Recordings Studios

The Center for Teaching and Learning has set up recordings studios in Seigle Hall on the north end of campus. Sessions are scheduled in 90-minute segments and you can sign up at this link. When you sign up, the staff will help you choose a room and capture mode based on your preferences and educational goals. This link contains two video examples of what is in the rooms for recording. Use of this service is great for those that are doing large lectures and have presentations already prepared. The recording is uploaded directly to your Kaltura My Media where you can make minor edit and post to your Canvas course.

#3: DIY Resources

Do-it-Yourself can be a successful strategy for creating videos in the comfort of your own office or home. Through the Canvas LMS you can use Kaltura, a video capture tool, to record your own presentations. For tips and tricks see these three guides:
